An unidentified 79-year-old Cedar Rapids man drowned near the Bussey Lake boat ramp this past week, according to a news release from Police Chief Derek Chambers.

The police department located the man's boat north of the ramp on Oct. 1 at 11:50 a.m. Witnesses in the area claimed to have seen a man in the water; however, he could not be located at the time.

Emergency service workers and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources conducted a search, locating the man's body at 3:45 p.m.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The Guttenberg Police Department and Iowa DNR were assisted by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office, Guttenberg Fire Department, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Clayton County Medical Examiner and Morris Funeral Homes.
