Garber home is a total loss following Feb. 18 fire

Fire destroyed a residence in Garber and damaged nearby property on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 18. 

The home was located on Front Street and is owned by Dirk Fishback. Six fire departments responded to the scene — Garber, Guttenberg, Edgewood, Colesburg, Garnavillo and Littleport.  

Due to extremely high wind and dry conditions, the fire spread to a neighboring residence located on Third Street, which sustained damage.

There were no injuries reported.

 ire personnel remained on scene for approximately six hours extinguishing the fire, conducting overhaul operations, and ensuring the area was secured. 

 dditional emergency responders provided medical support, traffic control, scene security, and utility assistance. They included Clayton County Emergency Management, Garber Fire Responders, Edgewood Ambulance Service, Guttenberg Ambulance Service, Alliant Energy and Clayton County Sheriff's Office. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Garber Fire Department and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance requested from the Iowa State Fire Marshal Division.
