Ingrid (Smyk) Wach, 87, of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, with her loving husband Jerome by her side.

Born in Berlin, Germany, on July 27, 1939, Ingrid completed her business education in Wedding, Berlin, before meeting Jerome while he was serving in the U.S. military. The two were married on Feb. 19, 1958. During Jerome’s 20-year military career, the family embraced a life of travel, following his assignments around the globe. Throughout these moves, Ingrid pursued a fulfilling career in banking and community service, taking great pride in supporting her family and local organizations. Tokyo, Japan, held a special place in her heart, where she cherished exploring a vibrant new culture and making lasting memories. Following their military travels, Ingrid loved settling into her home in Oceanport, N.J., where they lived for 25 years, before making Lakewood Ranch, Fla., their home for the past 25 years.

In her free time, Ingrid enjoyed folk crafts, needlework, and actively participated in the German-American Social Club.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jerome; her son, David, and his wife, Grace; and her grandchildren, Abigail Wach and Beatrix Wach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa and Johann Smyk; her sister, Traute Schmidt; and her brother, Bernd Smyk.

Ingrid will be remembered fondly for her warm spirit, love of travel, and deep devotion to her family and friends. She was a positive person who always had a smile and was happy to make new friends. She will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Guttenberg, alongside other members of the Wach family.
