Jean Ann (Cox) Von Handorf, 84, of Colesburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Feb, 12, 2026.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 16, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. Paul Baldwin. Visitation was before services at the parish center.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Jean was born to Frank and Florence Cox in Volga, on Jan. 29, 1942. She attended Volga High School and graduated with the class of 1959. After graduating, Jean worked at Black’s Department Store in Waterloo.
Growing up, Jean loved to go dancing at Lakeside in Guttenberg and roller skating in Strawberry Point with her best friend Linda (Tenney) Long. It was there that she met her husband, Don Von Handorf. Don and Jean were married on Nov. 18, 1961, in Volga. They lived in Georgia for a short time while Don was stationed in the Army and Dubuque before making Colesburg their home for the past 63 years.
Jean operated the NU Beauty Salon in the basement of her home for 20 years while her kids were growing up and she loved to go for walks at night with Kay Clayton.
Jean is survived by her husband, Donald; son, Stephen (Michele) Von Handorf of Guttenberg; daughters, Susan (Kevin) Cornwell of Colesburg, and Shellie (Arturo) Aguilera of Parker, Colo.; grandchildren, Brittani (Jason) Stephenson, Brenna Cornwell, Hannah (Jake) Wille, Abigail (Jordan) Anderson, Josef (Leah Wille) Von Handorf, Megan Aguilera and Morgan Aguilera; great-grandchildren, Reagan Cornwell-Duddeck, Emma Wille, and Crew Wille, Bailey Stephenson, Gracie Stephenson, Jack Stephenson, and Lola Stephenson; in-laws, Lou Ann Brown, Roger and Marilyn Shrunk.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents; siblings: John Cox, Mary Newton, Francis (Bud) Cox; in-laws: Jim Diers, Verna Mae Diers, Lester Von Handorf, Nancy Von Handorf, and Kenny Brown.
