LaDonna Mae Jetter, 91 years young from Guttenberg passed away peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 10, 2026.
A celebration of life will be held on April 11, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m., followed by the service and a luncheon. A private family burial will be held at the Guttenberg Cemetery.
Momma Mae could brighten any room with her big smile and caring personality. She was always sure to remember your birthday or event with a card, a call or a big apple pizza. She loved gardening, crocheting, baking, feeding the birds and butterflies. Her kind spirit and graceful presence will be missed by all.
LaDonna Mae loved Iowa! She grew up on a farm in central Iowa where the values of hard work, generous spirit and love of family were instilled. Mae met and married the love of her life, Roy Jetter, with whom she built a home and family. They enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards and adventuring for 54 years with family and friends. She belonged to many service groups including St John’s Lutheran Church circles, bible studies and committees; Guttenberg Book Club; American Legion Auxiliary and Meal Site. Her giving spirit touched many lives.
Mae worked from home providing childcare for local families during the school year while her children were young. Then she worked for the Telegraph Herald for 20 years delivering newspaper bundles to the surrounding communities. All of her children have memories of riding along on her route over the years and stopping to assist other drivers along the way.
LaDonna is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Mike) Thorson of Sequim, Wash.; her son, Kurt (Mary) Jetter of St. Paul, Minn.; her daughter, Karen (Jeff) Schluter of South Fork, Colo.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and a community of extended family and friends. Mae was welcomed into heaven by her son, Mark; her parents, and husband, Roy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mae’s memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg; Guttenberg Public Library, Guttenberg; Camp EWALU, Strawberry Point; or the Iowa Monarch Conservation Consortium of IA, Ames (https://isu.foundation/IowaMonarchConservationPlan).
Mae will live on in every laugh, every hug, every big smile and in the memories we carry forward. Pieces of her will continue in our hearts and adventures, as her love ripples outward touching the lives of others for years to come.
