A bridge approach repair project for the Bloody Run Creek bridge within the city of Marquette began on June 15. Work on this project was originally scheduled for completion last year but was delayed. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, it is expected to wrap up by late July, weather permitting.
The bridge is located between Bally’s Casino and the Frontier Motel, where Bloody Run Creek meets the Mississippi River, and will be closed while work is completed. Pedestrian access across the bridge will also be closed.
This will impact direct travel between downtown Marquette and McGregor on State Highway 76/Business 18—the road along the river. To reach McGregor or the casino or “Bench” neighborhood in Marquette, travelers should follow a marked detour via Highway 18 and Klein Brewery Road/Business 18—otherwise known as the White Springs Hill—then onto Main Street. The road between towns remains open beyond the closure.
Digital message boards will alert drivers in advance, and the Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
