Brian L. Kienast, 77, of Guttenberg, passed away Monday, June 22, 2026, at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics surrounded by his loved ones.
Visitation was Sunday, June 28, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg. Military Honors were prior to visitation.
Brian was born on Oct. 31, 1948, in Vinton, son of Hugo and Adela (Ullerich) Kienast. He married Nancy Novak on Jan. 9, 1971, and two children were born to this union, Shelley and Todd. He later married Joyce Geistkemper on Nov. 5, 1977, and one child was born to this union, Trapper.
Brian attended Benton Community Schools and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated many years of hard work to John Deere, where he remained employed until his retirement. He was also a devoted member of the community, serving for several years as a trustee of the Guttenberg Eagles Club.
Brian took great pride in maintaining his lawn and enjoyed spending time woodworking and visiting with friends. Some of his most treasured moments were spent on the river and playing cards with his grandchildren. Known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, Brian brought joy to those around him and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children, Trapper (Abbi) Kienast, Shelley Carolan, Todd Kienast; grandchildren, Gracyn and Sean Kienast, Brylee (Alex) Latcham, Brogan Carolan and Marissa (Brady) Jacobi; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Nancy) Kienast; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Lein and Joyce Geistkemper; and many other relatives and friends.
Brian was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brother, Gary Kienast; sister, Cheryl Kienast; and brothers-in-law, Lee and Jim Geistkemper.
