Mick Gilbert Pierce, 76, of Guttenberg, Iowa, passed away peacefully after a long illness on May 29, 2026.

Celebration of life will be held in his honor on Friday, June 5, from 4-8 p.m. at the Marina Visitor Center, 715 S. River Park Dr., Guttenberg. Family and friends are invited to come share stories, memories, and support one another.

Mick was born on Sept. 14, 1949, to June and Maurice Pierce.

Mick was a devoted and loving family man who shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Carolyn. He cherished Carolyn and his children deeply and would do anything for his family. He spent over 40 years as a truck driver, often sacrificing time at home with long weeks on the road to provide for them. His quiet strength, strong work ethic, and unconditional love for his family will never be forgotten.

He found great joy in many hobbies and classic American pastimes. He was especially proud of his 1939 Chevrolet Truck, affectionately known as “Old Blue.” A lifelong fan of old-school NASCAR, he loved watching the races and sharing stories about the sport’s golden era. He also enjoyed playing cards, particularly euchre with his sons, where laughter and friendly competition were always present. Mick spent many happy hours doing woodworking, crafting beautiful and practical items such as toy chests for his grandchildren, furniture, and countless other treasures that will be cherished by his family for years to come. His homemade lemon-flavored ice cream was legendary — widely regarded by all who tasted it as the very best. He also treasured his lifelong friendship with Carl Overbeck.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Jason (Jill), Joe (Adria), Andy, and Brett (Shelby) Pierce; grandchildren, Ellison, Adelyn, Alexis, Tyler, Brianna, Brayden, Emma, Macy, Logan, and James, and one on the way; his siblings, Glee Diane (Denny), Jan, Mitzi (Ron), Jim (Penny), Joe (Pat), Paul (Cindy), and Terry (Adriana).

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jeff and Chris and his parents.
