Neal Steven Christianson, 49, of Garnavillo passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation was Monday, May 18, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo and before services at the church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 19, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Pastor Tyler Hoey.

Burial was in the Garnavillo City Cemetery.

Neal was born on Dec. 4, 1976, in the Guttenberg Hospital, the son of Steven and Janet (Rodenberg) Christianson. He was the oldest of two children. Neal graduated from Garnavillo Community High School in the class of 1996.

Neal had several different jobs in his day. The one that gave him purpose was working as Crossing Guard I nhis hometown of Garnavillo for Clayton Ridge School. You could see his great personality in the afternoon, rain or shine. He enjoyed boy scouts in his youth. He was always very active in the St. Peter Lutheran Church along with the Red Cross Blood Drives the church would host.

You could always see Neal out on a road tour or nightly drive, often for a caffeine free pepsi or maybe at the 2MIT stand in Elkader getting his burger with onions and homemade mustard. Neal had a strong love for the Chicago Cubs, New York Jets, and the Iowa basketball teams. On the day of a game, you could find him in his chair, shouting at the TV and rooting on his beloved teams.

Neal’s favorite national holiday was deer season where he would get together with the guys and go hunting in his designated spot by the maple tree.

“In Our Hearts Forever,” even though we are apart, your spirit lives within us forever in our hearts.

Neal is survived by his mother, Janet (Rodenberg) Christianson of Garnavillo; brother, Jay (Emily) Christianson of Elkader; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Christianson in 2023; and grandparents.
