Frieden advances to regional final

The Central girls golf team put up its best score of the season—a 391—to finish fifth at the Class 1A first round regional meet at Buffalo Creek Golf Course near Winthrop on May 15.

Beckman Catholic edged East Buchanan 365 to 369 to take the top team honors, followed by Edgewood-Colesburg in third place with a 378 and Maquoketa Valley fourth at 385.

Ed-Co senior Lauren Kirby and Beckman senior Maggie Domeyer led all individuals with scores of 86 over 18 holes. Central sophomore Ella Frieden matched an 87 from Piper Reck of East Buchanan, placing fourth and advancing to the second round of regionals at Silver Springs Golf Club in Ossian on May 20.

Other Warrior scores included a 96 from Brylee Erickson and 100 by Katie Royer. Avery Fette shot a 108 and Payton Stannard a 115, while Lillian Becwar finished the meet with a 132.
