Sixth place for Warriors at UIC girls golf meet

Central turned in a score of 421 to place sixth at the Upper Iowa Conference girls golf meet, held May 5 at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette.

Crestwood and New Hampton battled for the top spot, with the Cadets edging the Chickasaws 361 to 368 for first place. South Winneshiek followed in third place at 385, then North Fayette Valley at 390 and MFL MarMac 396. Waukon ended the day 10 strokes behind Central, at 431, and Turkey Valley, Clayton Ridge and West Central rounded out the team results with respective scores of 440, 485 and 498.

New Hampton’s Kirsten Nuss was the top individual, her 75 coming in eight shots better than runner-up Ainsley Teeling from Crestwood.

Ella Frieden led the Warriors in 11th place, finishing with a score of 95. Brylee Erickson posted a 101 for 16th place, and Avery Fette ended the day in 29th with a score of 107. Rounding out Central’s scores were Katie Royer with a 118 and Payton Stannard with a 133.

The Warriors closed out the regular season 14-26 overall and 8-10 in Upper Iowa Conference play—which also ranked them sixth.

The team will begin postseason play on Friday, May 15, at Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Winthrop. The Class 1A - Region 4C site will also include Beckman Catholic, Clayton Ridge, Dunkerton, East Buchanan, Edgewood-Colesburg, Maquoketa Valley, Wapsie Valley and West Central.
