Last week, the Central volleyball team took on North Fayette Valley, falling in three sets with scores of 21-25, 17-25 and 12-25.
Several young players stepped up to help the Warriors. Freshman Greta Scherf and eighth grader Ori Burke stepped into the front row, while Rylie Kuhse filled in the back row. It was great to see these younger players step up, gain experience and contribute to the team.
Leading the Warriors offensively was senior Brylee Erickson with nine kills. She also contributed on defense with 12 digs. Avery Fette had a strong performance with seven kills and 12 digs, while Ella Frieden added five kills and 14 digs. Ella also served well for the Warriors, going 15 for 16 with three aces. Zoey Armstrong led the defensive effort with 16 digs and helped run the offense with 17 assists.
As a team, the Warriors served 82%, compared to NFV’s 93%. The teams were fairly even in kills, and Central finished with more digs, but the Warriors struggled with errors, committing nearly twice as many as NFV. Central did a good job with serve receive in the first set, but hitting, serving and serve-receive errors became more of a challenge as the match progressed.
The Warriors continue to work hard as they approach the end of the season. This week, they will wrap up their conference schedule with two matches against Clayton Ridge and Postville. The team will look to build on the positives, limit unforced errors and finish the season strong.
