A pair of unanswered fourth quarter touchdowns lifted Cascade to a 35-28 Class 1A - District 5 football win over MFL MarMac on Oct. 9.

The Bulldogs opened up a 14-7 first quarter lead, then kept pace with two Cougar scores in the second quarter to lead 28-21 at halftime. They were kept out of the end zone in the second half, however, allowing Cascade to complete the comeback and match MFL MarMac’s 2-2 district record.

The Cougars hit the Bulldogs with a balanced offensive attack, with 176 yards and three touchdowns through the air, then 206 yards and another touchdown on the ground. MFL MarMac picked off one pass, courtesy of Kashton Decker, while Noah Troester recovered a fumble, but had no sacks and only a pair of tackles for loss.

Blake Schutte led the Bulldogs with 6.5 total tackles, followed by Rylan Schroeder with 4.5 and Daxton Diemel 3.5. Ashton Phillips and Cameron Hagensick each recorded 3 tackles.

Offensively, Decker reached the rushing century mark for the third straight game, leading the team with 102 yards on 12 carries. Diemel added 68 yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts, while Tyce Wikner toted the ball 14 times for 64 yards. Schroeder also added a rushing touchdown.

Quarterback Easton Lange carried the ball three times for nine yards and a touchdown. He completed two of his six passes for 46 yards, and threw no interceptions.

The Bulldogs are now 3-4 overall and 2-2 in district play heading into the regular season finale against Northeast on Oct. 16. Ranked 10th in Class 1A, the Rebels remained unbeaten with a 24-21 victory over previously undefeated Beckman Catholic last week. MFL MarMac and Northeast will face off in Monona at 7 p.m. on Friday.
