Bulldogs run against large field at Jesup

The MFL MarMac cross country teams tested themselves against runners from over 30 other schools at the Sept. 29 Jesup Invitational.

Ranked 10th in Class 2A, the Bulldog girls placed sixth among 23 full teams with a score of 236. Maquoketa Valley won the team title with 84 points, followed by Waukon with 143, Jesus 178, Denver 192 and Center Point-Urbana 197.

McKenna Kozelka posted a team-best 20:44, finishing in 18th place. Brooke Donlon was 40th on a time of 21:30, followed by Evie Fritz in 54th with a 21:48. Mackenzie Birdnow and Trinly Trappe rounded out the team score with respective times of 22:06 and 22:26, landing them in the 62nd and 71st spots.

Taryn Moser completed the course in 22:57, which was good for 88th place, while Kinley Trappe was 108th in 23:30, Grace Swatek 122nd in 24:10 and Skylar Fisk 129th in 24:22.

Trace Moser led MFL MarMac in the varsity boys race, his time of 19:12 putting him in 60th place. Jude Onken ran the course in 20:11, earning him the 98th spot, then Cooper Kuehl and Tristan Bacon were a respective 106th and 112th on times of 20:18 and 20:28. Adian Reynolds finished in 22:13, for 168th place, followed by Payton Schultz in 201st at 24:49 and Noah Breuer 208th at 25:32.

The Bulldogs turned in a team score of 460, ranking them 16th among 25 full boys teams. Benton Community took the top spot with a 47, while Denver was the runner-up at 58.

MFL MarMac competes just once this week, at South Winn on Oct. 6. It’s the final race before the conference meet hosted by NFV on Oct. 15.
