The Central football team scored its second blowout in as many weeks on Oct. 9, breezing past Easton Valley 70-20 for their second district win—and fourth overall—this season.

Four players rushed for 40 or more yards as the Warriors racked up 378 yards on the ground versus the River Hawks. Senior Owen Hammersland led the attack with 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 20 carries. He averaged nine yards per carry.

Quarterback Griffen Hammersland netted 97 yards and two touchdowns on five rushing attempts. He also threw the ball twice, including a 47-yard score to fellow junior Mason Loan.

In addition to the touchdown catch, Loan finished the game with two touchdowns and 57 yards rushing on six carries.

Sophomore George Reimer added a 42-yard touchdown run as well.

Easton Valley put up 318 total yards of offense, including 138 in the air and 180 on the ground, but couldn’t keep pace with Central. Loan picked off River Hawk quarterback Fred Klemme three times—one for a pick six—and Owen Hammersland recovered a fumble.

Hammersland was the team tackles leader, with 8 total. That included 3 of the Warriors’ 5 sacks. Loan earned 6 tackles and Griffen Hammersland 5.5. Freshman Grant Burns picked up 3.5 tackles, with a sack, and junior Zane Embretson and sophomore Landon Glawe each wrangled 3. Reimer finished the game with 2.5 tackles, while senior Isaiah Burns had a pair, including a sack.

Central will close out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 16, against Edgewood-Colesburg, who is undefeated and ranked seventh among eight-player teams in the state. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at the Dittmer Sports Complex in Elkader.
