Warrior girls shoot to the top in UIC golf meet

Last week was a busy one for the Central girls golf team, who competed in meets at Charles City, Postville and Union Community.

The Warriors were runners-up to Crestwood in an April 27 triangular at Charles City. They turned in a team score of 219, while the Cadets posted a 190. Charles City placed third at 226.

Crestwood had the top three golfers in Ainsley Teeling, Kenzie Moellers and Addison Moellers, who had respective scores of 45 47 and 48. Warrior Ella Frieden also shot a 48. Other Central scores included a 52 from Brylee Erickson, 58 by Avery Fette, 61 by Katie Royer and 67 from Payton Stannard.

On April 28, Central secured an Upper Iowa Conference meet victory over West Central and Postville. The Warriors combined for a score of 223, well ahead of West Central’s 278. Postville did not field a team score.

Central also led the way individually, with Frieden as the medalist with a 48 and Erickson the runner-up after shooting a 49. Royer slotted into third place with a 54. Fette finished the meet with a 72.

The Warriors concluded the week April 29, placing fifth at the 18-hole Knight Invite hosted by Union Community. East Buchanan took the top spot with a score of 412, followed by Beckman Catholic at 420, West Delaware 434 and Independence 447. Central shot a 452 to come in ahead of Union Community’s 469.

Frieden led Central with a 102, placing her fifth.

The team’s lone action this week is the Upper Iowa Conference Meet at Big Country Club on May 5.
