The MFL MarMac boys soccer team improved to 5-4-1 and is enjoying a four-game winning streak after going a perfect 3-0 last week.

The Bulldogs held off Clayton Ridge 2-1 in a May 4 match in Guttenberg, avenging a loss from two weeks prior. Senior Kyler Nuehring was responsible for both goals, netted on assists from Kaleb Nuehring and Ashton Phillips.

MFL MarMac keeper Carsten Pester grabbed six saves.

The success continued May 7, in an 8-1 victory over visiting Monticello. Senior Carter Lightfoot wowed the home crowd with an impressive four goals, while Nuehring scored his third of the week. Kaleb Nuehring, Cooper Kuehl and Brody Ross also found the net. Kuehl, Phillips and Eli Hanson each picked up an assist.

Compared to the Bulldogs’ 16 shots on goal against the Panthers, Pester saw minimal action, allowing one score but stopping two others.

On May 8, MFL MarMac scored one goal in each half to defeat visiting New Hampton 2-0. Kyler Nuehring found the net for the third straight game, thanks to an assist from Hanson, and Kuehl earned his second goal of the week on an assist from Nuehring.

The Bulldogs took 12 shots on goal, while the Chickasaws managed just four against Pester, who earned a clean sheet.

Head coach Erik Peterson said the boys have taken off the second half of the season.

“They have done a great job figuring out where we need to be, and have made some great adjustments along the way. We are playing great soccer right now,” he said.

The coach also credited success to improving skills and adapting to challenges. The team’s goals are to continue improving and having fun.

“We look to continue building on this season and years to come,” Peterson said.

MFL MarMac has three matches on the road this week: at Columbus Catholic on May 11, at Cascade May 12, then at Marquette Catholic May 15.
