GCGR, Gladbrook-Reinbeck ended the MFL MarMac boys soccer team’s postseason run in the May 27 Class 1A substate semifinals.
The eighth ranked team in Class 1A, the Rebels scored four goals in both the first and second halves to defeat the Bulldogs 8-0. They took 26 shots on goal.
GCGR keepers thwarted seven MFL MarMac scoring attempts.
The Bulldogs wrapped up 2026 with a winning record of 7-6-1, their first time finishing .500 or better since the program started in 2024. Seven wins is a three-game improvement over the four a year ago.
Senior Carter Lightfoot led the team with 32 points and 15 goals, in addition to recording two assists. Fellow senior Kyler Nuehring netted eight goals and freshman Cooper Kuehl six. Junior Ashton Phillips was the MFL MarMac assist leader, with five, followed by Kyler Nuehring and Kaleb Nuehring with three apiece.
Carsten Pester had the most minutes in goal, earning a 78.4 percent save percentage leading up to last week’s playoff match.
