MFL MarMac placed fourth among 11 schools at the Upper Iowa Conference boys golf meet, held May 4 at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette.
The Bulldogs finished with a score of 337, a stroke better than fifth-place Crestwood. South Winneshiek, who was a nearly perfect 18-1 in regular season play, was also the UIC meet champion with a 317, while second and third went to Central and Waukon with respective scores of 325 and 332. Spots six through 11 included North Fayette Valley (349), Turkey Valley (355), Clayton Ridge (357), New Hampton (362), West Central (365) and Postville (369).
Waukon’s Dylan Stegen was the top individual golfer, finishing the 18 holes with a 74. Runner-up was Nicholas Bernhard from Turkey Valley, who shot a 76.
MFL MarMac’s Jaxon Lamborn was one of three golfers who turned in a 78, and finished in third place. Next up for the Bulldogs was Will Miller in 18th, after posting an 83, then Jarett Hanson was 24th with an 87. Wes Corlett and Maddox Hanson placed a respective 30th and 32nd with scores of 89 and 90, while Dayne Anderson took 42nd after shooting a 92.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season 27-12 overall and 15-5 in UIC play after hosting a makeup meet at Tri City Golf Course on May 8. The team shot a 156, placing second to South Winn’s 152. Crestwood turned in a 166 and New Hampton a 167.
Miller was the medalist with an individual round of 34, besting Warrior Braiden Todd by one stroke. Jarett Hanson and Maddox Hanson each finished the meet with 40s and Lamborn a 42. Corlett shot a 44 and Anderson a 49.
Next, MFL MarMac will golf in the Class 2A Sectional at Pleasant Valley Sports Club in Clermont on Wednesday, May 13. The top three teams, as well as the top two overall individuals from non-qualifying teams, will advance to districts on May 18.
