Late goal lifts Bulldogs to playoff win
MFLMM Boys Soccer

Avenging a 3-1 loss from earlier in the season, MFL MarMac defeated Bellevue 2-1 on May 18 to advance out of the first round of the Class 1A boys soccer playoffs.

The Bulldogs scored the go-ahead goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Carter Lightfoot and Cooper Kuehl each netted a goal, while Kyler Nuehring contributed an assist.

MFL MarMac keeper Carsten Pester had a strong night in the net, turning away all but one of the Comets’ nine shots on goal.

In a Facebook post, coach Erik Peterson said, “Our defense and midfield pushed hard all night to get the ball to the forwards and create opportunities. They played a complete game and everyone played to the end. They showed a great never-give-up attitude.”

Now 7-5-1, the Bulldogs will take on 9-5 GCGR, Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the substate semifinals this Wednesday, May 27.
