MFL MarMac scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of the match to defeat Postville 4-1 in the Class 1A girls soccer postseason opener on May 26.
The Bulldogs scored their first goal early in the opening half and continued to hold onto that lead until the Pirates found the net with around 20 minutes remaining in the game. The MFL MarMac offense then kicked it into gear, with three goals in quick succession as time ticked down.
Brynlee Fritz, Addison Corlett and Nora Rasmussen were responsible for the Bulldogs’ goals. Postville took just five shots on goal against MFL MarMac keeper Alexa McElwaine.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs struggled to find the net May 28, in the next playoff match-up at Denver. The Cyclones, who came into the game 14-0-3 and the top ranked team in Class 1A, unleashed five goals in the opening half before tacking on three more in the second for an 8-0 victory. Denver took a whopping 35 shots on goal.
The Bulldogs finished the season 8-6-3—the best record in program history. The inaugural 2024 team had no wins and last year’s squad netted one.
During the regular season, sophomore Kambry Keehner led MFL MarMac with 17 points and eight goals. Sophomore Ashytn Dundee followed with five goals, and senior Kacie Picha and sophomore Evelyn Fritz each had four. Fritz topped the assist column with five, followed by Picha with two.
McElwaine had a 77 percent save percentage, allowing 14 goals but stopping 47.
