The MFL MarMac soccer teams had strong weeks, with the boys picking up a win and playing to a draw, while the girls went 2-1-1 in a busy stretch.
The Bulldog boys opened the week April 28, in a 4-4 tie against Postville. The team trailed 3-1 in the opening half, but stormed back in the second half to even the score.
Senior Carter Lightfoot was responsible for three of MFL MarMac’s goals, while fellow senior Kyler Nuehring added the other as well as one assist. Seniors Braxton Halvorson and Kynnick Corlett had assists as well.
Carsten Pester and Eli Hanson combined for four saves against the Pirates, who took seven shots on goal. Postville had one goal apiece from Levi Winnings, Darinel Ramirez, Jesus Loera Munoz and McKinley Burns. Their keeper, Brayan Toj, recorded four saves.
The Bulldogs continued to pump out goals in a 4-1 victory over visiting West Delaware on May 1. Three of the scores came in the first half, as MFL MarMac took a 3-1 lead, and another was chipped in during the second half.
The MFL MarMac girls defeated Postville 4-0 on April 28, scoring more goals in one game than they had up to that point this season. Three came in the second half.
Sophomore Kambry Keehner netted a pair of goals, and led the team with three shots on goal. Senior Kacie Picha and sophomore Evie Fritz each found the net once, while Ashtyn Dundee recorded an assist.
The Bulldog defense was stellar, holding the Pirates to just one shot on goal. MFL MarMac keeper Alexa McElwaine did not have to attempt any saves.
A second half goal lifted MFL MarMac to a 1-1 draw versus visiting West Delaware on May 1. The following day, at the Richland Center Triangular, the Bulldogs again relied on a second half goal to defeat Portage/Poynette 1-0. They lost 1-0 to host Richland Center in the other match.
The MFL MarMac boys are now 2-4-1 and the girls 3-3-3. Both teams played at Clayton Ridge on May 4, and will host Marquette Catholic on May 7 and New Hampton May 8.
