Relays rack up points for MFL MarMac girls track

The MFL MarMac girls track and field team saw success in relays, individual races and field events at meets in Guttenberg and Monona last week.

At the Clayton Ridge Girls Invitational on April 28, the Bulldogs won both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays and were runners-up in the sprint and distance medleys.

The 4x200 included Brooklyn Landt, Lauryn Sandstrom, Olivia Driscoll and Blair Winter, while the 4x400 featured Landt, Winter and Driscoll, then Khloe Schutte as the anchor leg. Landt, Sandstrom, Winter and Schutte made up the team’s sprint medley, while Aaliyah Corcoran, Driscoll, Charlotte Meyer and Briella Schutte combined in the distance medley.

Meyer turned in another first-place finish in the 1500 meter run, and Khloe Schutte and Briella Schutte were second in the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run, respectively.

The 100 meter dash included Amelia Duffield in 11th place, Makya Wood 13th and Ariana Fish 16th. Additionally, Duffield was 14th in the 200 and Wood 16th.

Corcoran was MFL MarMac’s lone hurdler, coming in fifth in the 400 meter event.

In the field events, Winter continued to excel in the discus, reaching a distance of 102 feet, seven inches for second in the discus. Teammate Brooklyn Tonn was 14th with a throw of 49 feet, three inches. Tonn was also ninth in the shot put, a place back of Fish.

Landt leapt to fourth in the long jump, securing a distance of 15 feet, 8.5 inches.

MFL MarMac placed fourth overall with 76 points. Edgewood-Colesburg won the meet with 136, followed by Turkey Valley at 109 and Kee 100. Clayton Ridge was just behind the Bulldogs with a score of 73.

Relays continued to lead the Bulldogs in the April 30 MFL MarMac Girls Invitational. Landt, Winter, Driscoll and Khloe Schutte again teamed up to win the 4x400, then Landt, Sandstrom, Winter and Khloe Schutte were also first in the sprint medley. Corcoran, Driscoll, Meyer and Briella Schutte were runners-up in the distance medley.

The 4x200 of Sandstrom, Landt, Driscoll and Winter crossed the finish line third, and Corcoran, Sandstrom, Duffield and Driscoll claimed fourth in the 4x100.

Khloe Schutte was back on top in the 400 meter dash, while Meyer continued to reign over the 1500. Briella Schutte ran to sixth in the 800.

Duffield posted a 15th place result in the 100 meter dash and 18th in the 200. Wood and Fish were a respective 19th and 22nd in the 100.

Winter earned another second place throw in the discus. Tonn was 17th in that event and 15th in the shot put. Fish placed 17th in the shot put.

Landt propelled herself to fifth in the long jump.

MFL MarMac tallied 69 points, putting them in sixth place. North Fayette Valley took the top spot with 110, followed by Central at 94, Clayton Ridge 83, Kee 82 and Waukon 72. West Central’s score was 38.

The Bulldogs competed at Edgewood-Colesburg on May 4, then will head to Clayton Ridge for the Upper Iowa Conference Meet on May 7.
