MFL MarMac

By Brent Roe

On July 3, MFL MarMac made the trip to Anamosa to take on the Anamosa Blue Raiders in the opening round of Class 2A - Substate 3 baseball action. After four innings, the Bulldogs were up 5-4 after a two-run single by Jason Larson. But after the Blue Raiders tallied 11 runs in two innings, it was enough to end the Bulldogs’ season in six innings. The final score of the match-up was 15-5. Pitchers for the Bulldogs were Kyler Nuehring and Tyce Wikner.

The loss came after the Bulldogs went 1-1 in the final two games of the regular season last week.

On June 29, the Bulldogs faced the 13th ranked team in Class 2A, the Waukon Indians, losing 14-0 in five innings. MFL MarMac was limited to one hit and two walks, while the Indians racked up 13 hits—including four doubles and a homerun—along with three walks and a hit by pitch. The starting pitcher for the Bulldogs was Kyler Nuehring.

On June 30, the Bulldogs traveled to Crestwood to face the Cadets, where they won 9-3. The starting pitcher for the Bulldogs was Brent Roe, but he pitched just one-third of an inning after being taken out because of a shoulder injury. The other pitchers for MFL MarMac were Collin Wilder and Maddox Hanson, who came in and shut the door.

MFL MarMac batters cranked out eight hits and benefitted from seven walks and two hit batters, as well as three Crestwood errors. The Bulldogs stole five bases.

The Bulldogs finished the season 6-19 overall and 5-12 in the Upper Iowa Conference—fourth of five teams in the UIC’s big division standings. Waukon was the top team with a conference record of 14-3. New Hampton followed at 13-4, then North Fayette Valley at 7-10. Crestwood finished below the Bulldogs at 2-15.
