Find small-town summer fun in Elkader this week at the annual Sweet Corn Days celebration.

Activities kick off Thursday, July 23, with the Friends of the Library Book Sale in the Central State Bank Community Room from noon to 6 p.m. Participate in Chalk the Walk at Founders’ Park from 4 to 8 p.m., then head to the 200 block of South Main Street for Music and Market on Main. From 5 to 8 p.m., events will include music, food and drinks, a vendor and street fair and Main Street Elkader’s ice cream social. At 9 p.m. is a movie in Founders’ Park.

Friday, July 24 features the Elkader Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament and a continuation of the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Sweet Corn Days royalty and grand marshals will be recognized in Founders’ Park at 5:45 p.m., kicking off an evening of music, food vendors and a drink tent, as well as the carnival. Fireworks will be shot off at dusk.

A full slate of events is planned for Saturday, July 25, starting with a 5K run/walk at 7:30 a.m. The softball tournament begins at 8 a.m., a shot gun run at 8:30 a.m. and Bend and Booze: Yoga in the Park at 9 a.m. The book sale also continues.

At Founders’ Park, enjoy food vendors, a drink tent and the carnival throughout the day. A kiddie tractor pull and bean bag tournament are set for 11 a.m., and that’s also the start time for Central PTO Bingo.

The Sweet Corn Days Parade will hit Main Street at 2 p.m., followed by a car and truck show and free sweet corn courtesy of the Elkader Fire Department. A moonlight swim at the Elkader Pool and teen sand volleyball tournament at the Elkader City Park will begin at 8 p.m.

That evening, Founders’ Park will host Cornstock featuring live music by Doubting Thomas and Wildcard.

Sweet Corn Days activities conclude Sunday, July 26, with a 9 a.m. pickle ball tournament in the Elkader City Park.
