Guttenberg's businesses are planning to go a little out of their heads when the Crazy Day sale returns.
The sale will take place on Saturday, Aug. 1, with most stores open by 8 a.m. Several downtown businesses will participate in the sale, offering a wide variety of bargains and specials during the day.
Along with low prices and deals, the day has plenty of opportunities for customers to score prizes and enjoy other activities centered around the city's downtown business district.
The Chamber of Commerce encourages customers to post their finds on social media and pictures of themselves individually or in groups in front of participating businesses using the #guttenbergchambercommerce tag. Those who do will be entered into a drawing.
Customers who make a purchase at one of the businesses will receive a ticket to "go fishing" at the children's fish pond located on the 300 block of downtown Guttenberg.
Additionally, businesses taking part in the Crazy Day sale will hide a golden token. Whoever finds the token will win a prize.
Crazy Day shoppers will need to have their pencils ready, too. Each business will have a "Crazy Unique" display where ballots can be picked up to vote on who had your favorite "Crazy Unique" item. Anyone who submits a ballot will be entered into a drawing.
While people shop, patrons can stop in at one of the participating restaurants for a drink or a bite to eat and receive a ballot to vote on who has the best sandwich, salad, dessert and overall menu—and, yes, those who submit a ballot will be entered into a drawing.
The same day, people can enter the sidewalk chalk contest. Each entry will receive a free ice cream from Sodes. Sidewalk art will begin on the 300 block downtown. Entries will be divided into age groups for judging, and winners in each division will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant. The contest is open to children of all ages and adults.
The Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce will have cotton candy available on the Welcome Center's porch.
The local farmers' market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon that day, and Dave Poggenglass will provide musical entertainment from 10 a.m. to noon.
