James Ronald Hoeger, 75, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2026, at his home in Farmersburg.
Visitation was Thursday, April 30, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo and before services at the church.
Funeral services were Friday, May 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries and Deacon Jim Pfaffly.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Jim was born on Aug. 28, 1950, to Vincent and Inez (Brunsman) Hoeger. He graduated from Garnavillo High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving his country. He worked the family farm for several years before helping another farmer. He would work for 3M for over 30 years before retiring to enjoy the simple things in life. Jim married Amy Eberhardt on July 24, 1971, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo. She preceded him in death in 2016. Jim then married Jan Wagner on July 16, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo.
Jim had a lifelong love for the outdoors and was a master gardener who took great pride in his work on the farm. Jim had a natural gift with livestock and found deep fulfillment in caring for the land and animals. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping in his early years with his son, Ken. He was known for his kindness and strong work ethic, values he passed down to his family. Jim enjoyed a sweet treat and time on the porch with his loved ones. Above all, he was a man of deep faith, with his religious devotion guiding his life and the legacy he leaves behind.
Jim will be forever loved and cherished by his wife, Jan; children, Ken (Carly) Hoeger of Elkader, Lesa (Leonard Aadland) Hoeger of Wesley, Ann (Jeff) Cutler of Johnston and Carl Hoeger of Garnavillo; step-children, Chad Kruse, Heidi (Chris Richter) Kruse; grandchildren, Kendra (Jerry) Schwab, Kari Mizell, Sallie Rohner; step-grandchildren, Alyssa Rogis and Paige Kruse; great-grandchildren, Oliver Schwab, Alice Schwab, Archer Mizell; siblings, Dennis (Martha) Hoeger, Sharon (Ken) Schoenauer, Randy (Anne) Hoeger, Alan (Sue) Hoeger; in-laws, Clyde (Peggy) Wagner, Tom (Annette) Wagner, Dale (Deb) Wagner, and Julie (Matt) Cayler.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy, in 2016 and his parents.
