It was an exciting homecoming football game for the Central faithful, as they watched the Warriors cruise past Cedar Ridge Christian 66-7 in the Oct. 2 match-up at the Dittmer Sports Complex.
Central opened up a resounding 24-0 lead over the Regents in the opening quarter, then pushed it to 44-0 by halftime. A pair of third-quarter touchdowns increased the advantage even more, to 60-0. Cedar Ridge Christian didn’t get on the board until the final frame.
The Warriors unleashed a relentless rushing attack, with multiple players combining for 318 yards and seven touchdowns. Senior Owen Hammersland led the effort with 160 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries, including a 66-yard score.
Junior Mason Loan toted the ball four times for 64 yards and a touchdown, while junior quarterback Griffen Hammersland racked up 95 yards and two touchdowns on four attempts. He also completed both of his passing attempts, one a 23-yard catch by Samuel Belser and the other a 29-yard touchdown reception to George Reimer.
The Central defense was equally relentless, snagging three Regent turnovers. Christopher Domka recovered a fumble and Owen Hammersland had both a fumble recovery and a 21-yard pick six.
Warrior players amassed 5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss. Loan and Reimer led the team with 7 tackles apiece, with a sack for Reimer. Owen Hammersland netted 6.5 tackles and Belser 5, including a sack. Three players—Griffen Hammersland, Zane Embretson and Isaiah Burns—all had 3.5 tackles. Embretson was responsible for 2 sacks and Burns 1.
The win improved Central to 3-3. The team will return to district play this week, traveling to winless Easton Valley on Friday, Oct. 9.
