Central runners-up in UIC golf meet

A score of 164 placed the Central boys golf team second in an Upper Iowa Conference triangular at the Elkader Golf and Country Club on April 20. South Winneshiek won the meet with a 154, while Turkey Valley fell to third after shooting a combined 180.

Trojan Nicholas Bernhard was the medalist with a 36—two shots better than the 38s put up by Braiden Todd and Carson Streeter from South Winn. Central’s Owen Burke was one of three golfers with a round of 39, then Owen Hammersland and Griffen Hammersland both shot 40s. Isaac Loan finished the day with a 45, followed by Weston Stannard and Blake Stevenson with 46s.

The Warriors played in the Clayton Ridge 18-Hole Invitational on April 21, placing fourth of six teams with a score of 351. Crestwood took the top spot with a 337, followed by North Fayette Valley at 341 and East Buchanan 347. Clayton Ridge matched Central’s 351 but lost a tiebreaker, then Postville was sixth with a score of 388.

Clayton Ridge’s Seth Kregel was the top individual with a 78, and East Buc’s Brady Van Scoyoc and Crestwood’s Owen Korsmo both shot 81s. Central’s Griffen Hammersland placed fourth with an 83.

Other Warrior scores included 89s from Burke and Stannard, a 90 by Owen Hammersland, 91 by Stevenson and 96 by Loan.

Central will compete in three meets this week, with triangulars at Charles City and Postville on April 27 and 28, then the Union Community’s Knight Event on April 29.
