The MFL MarMac football team scored once in the opening quarter and again in the fourth quarter, in what was otherwise a dominant 56-15 victory for undefeated Beckman Catholic in the opening game of Class 1A - District 5 play on Sept. 18.

The Beckman defense, playing on their home turf for homecoming, made nine tackles for loss in the victory, in addition to recovering two Bulldog fumbles.

The Trailblazer special teams was strong too, including a 77-yard touchdown on a punt return.

MFL MarMac narrowly out-gained Beckman on the ground, compiling 234 yards versus 232. Senior Rylan Schroeder carried the load, with 102 yards and a touchdown on 20 attempts. Fellow seniors Blake Schutte and Kashton Decker each earned 43 yards, including a touchdown for Schutte, while sophomore Daxton Diemel picked up 41.

The Bulldogs finished the game with -1 yard passing, whereas Beckman quarterback Noah Kluesner connected on seven of 12 attempts for 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was also one of the Trailblazers’ top rushers, generating 75 yards and another touchdown on just four carries.

Junior Noah Troester was MFL MarMac’s top tackler, with 3.5 total. Four players—Schutte, Decker, Mason Hollar and Tristan Hoopes—had 2.5. Diemel recorded 2 tackles along with an interception.

Now 1-3, the Bulldogs will head to Lisbon this Friday, Sept. 25, for another district game. The Lions enter the match-up 2-2, after losing to Cascade in their district opener.
