A time of 20:13.6 at the Sept. 17 Central Invitational helped MFL MarMac junior Charlotte Meyer break the school record for the second time this season.
She did it by over 20 seconds, after previously hitting 20:34 at the Ed-Co Cross Country Invitational on Aug. 25.
Meyer placed fourth among the 89-runner field, leading a Bulldog team that, now ranked 10th in Class 2A, won the team title with a score of 41. That was 11 points better than runner-up South Winneshiek, who is the fourth-ranked team in Class 1A, according to the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.
In addition to Meyer, six more MFL MarMac athletes placed within the top 20 in the girls race, including a sixth-place run for McKenna Kozelka in a time of 21:32.7. Brooke Donlon reached the finish line in 21:42.3, in 12th place, while Trinly Trappe and Evelyn Fritz were a respective 14th and 15th with marks of 22:00.4 and 22:15.8.
Mackenzie Birdnow turned in a time of 22:37.1, which was good for 17th, followed by Brooklyn Landt in 19th at 22:47.5. Grace Swatek and Emma Grau crossed in 22:56.8 and 22:59.5, for spots 22 and 23, then Taryn Moser was 25th with a time of 23:08.5. Next up, in 30th and 31st, were Kinley Trappe and Skylar Fisk, with Trappe completing the race in 23:24.9 and 23:38.8.
Other Bulldog results included Sam Ruff in 42nd with a time of 24:37.6, Brynlee Fritz 56th in 25:58.3, Kaylee Hoth 61st in 26:45.2, Emma Driscoll 67th in 27:22, Charlotte Koether 70th in 27:34.6, Brenna Schlein 79th in 30:32.9 and Maeve Koether 88th in 32:55.1.
The boys race also yielded strong results for MFL MarMac, with Trace Moser taking home his second top-10 placement of the season. The sophomore was seventh with a time of 18:37.9
Jude Onken completed the course in 19:53.5, claiming the 25th spot, then Cooper Kuehl took 36th with a result of 20:32.6. Tristan Bacon was close behind in 38th, thanks to a time of 20:35.5. Gavin Kishman and Adian Reynolds placed 50th and 53rd on respective times of 21:39.2 and 21:58.1, while Noah Breuer claimed 75th on a time of 24:05.8
The Bulldogs’ score of 137 ranked them sixth in the team standings. South Winneshiek took the top spot with a score of 35, then North Fayette Valley was the runner-up at 62. Charles City, Central and Clayton Ridge finished third through fifth with scores of 70, 82 and 105.
MFL MarMac has two meets on the docket this week, starting with the Waukon Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 22. The teams will head to Grundy Center on Sept. 24.
