The MFL MarMac baseball team went 2-3 last week, earning its first wins of the season against North Fayette Valley and Edgewood-Colesburg.

The Bulldogs faced North Fayette Valley June 1, in a doubleheader in West Union. They were shut out 10-0 in the opening game, allowing all 10 TigerHawk runs in the fourth inning.

NFV players slashed seven hits and benefitted from four walks and two hit batters. They reached twice more due to errors and also stole three bases.

MFL MarMac’s lone hit came on a single by senior Carter Lightfoot. Freshman Jason Larson drew two walks and senior Kyler Nuehring also walked and stole a base. Senior Wesley Corlett was hit by a pitch.

In game two, a five-run fourth inning propelled the Bulldogs to a 7-6 victory—their first of 2026. Seven players recorded hits, including a 3-for-4 showing by sophomore Collin Wilder, who drove in one run. Lightfoot singled and doubled, knocking in one run and scoring once himself. Larson had one hit and was responsible for three RBIs.

Freshman Mason Hollar singled, stole a base and scored a pair of runs. He also picked up the victory on the mound, allowing six hits, four walks and two earned runs while striking out two batters in four innings. Nuehring gave up just one hit and two walks in two and two-thirds innings; he struck out three batters.

A 7-2 result over Edgewood-Colesburg on June 2 gave the Bulldogs their second victory of the week. Freshman pitcher Easton Lange tamed the Viking offense, allowing just three hits and a walk in five innings, while striking out four hitters. Only one of the two runs scored against him were earned. Wilder pitched two innings in relief, hitting one batter but striking out four.

MFL MarMac had just three hits—a single by Wilder, double by freshman Tyce Wikner and triple by senior Nuehring—but made the most of five walks and kept Ed-Co off-balance with five steals. Wilder and Wikner led the team with two RBIs apiece. In addition to his RBI hit, Nuehring walked twice, stole three bases and scored two runs.

Kee snapped the Bulldogs’ two-game winning streak by a 7-1 score on June 3. Hawks pitcher Kyle Mauss limited the team’s offense to three hits—a single by Wilder and a pair of doubles from Wikner—along with two walks in seven innings. Wilder drove in the one run.

Hawks batters struck out 12 times against MFL MarMac pitching, including 11 by senior Brent Roe, but netted five hits and benefitted from eight walks and two hit batters. They reached base once on an error.

The Bulldogs ended the week with a 20-2 loss to Jesup on June 5. Racking up 11 hits, 13 walks and four hit batters, the J-Hawks did much of their damage in a 15-run second inning.

The MFL MarMac offense collected one hit, four walks and a hit by pitch.

Now 2-8, the Bulldogs have four Upper Iowa Conference games on the schedule this week. They will host South Winneshiek on June 10, before traveling to Crestwood June 11. Weather moved a home doubleheader against New Hampton to June 12.
