MFLMM Girls Soccer

The MFL MarMac boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Bellevue and Anamosa last week. The boys dropped two hard-fought matches, while the girls came away with a draw and their first victory of the season.

The Lady Bulldogs tied with Bellevue 0-0 on April 13, in a game in which the teams had just a combined seven shots on goal. MFL MarMac had two—one from Kacie Picha and another from Kambry Keehner—and the Comets made five attempts. Bulldog keeper Alexa McElwaine collected two saves.

MFL MarMac broke its scoreless drought on April 16, defeating Anamosa 2-0. The team racked up nine shots on goal, with Picha finally coming through. McElwaine notched three saves for the Bulldogs.

The boys lost both of last week’s matches 3-1. Bellevue had six shots on goal and their keeper, Mitch Manders, worked hard to limit MFL MarMac’s scoring despite 12 attempts.

At Anamosa, the Blue Raiders built a 2-0 halftime lead on MFL MarMac, and each team scored a goal in the second half. Carter Lightfoot found the net for the Bulldogs. Carsten Pester allowed three goals and had six saves.

The girls are now 1-2-2 and the boys 1-3. They were back in action against Clayton Ridge on April 20. Each will also have a pair of JV matches, with the girls taking on New Hampton and the boys North Fayette Valley on April 21, before welcoming Decorah on April 23.
