Central fell to Springville 30-20 in an eight-man district football match-up on Sept. 25.

The Orioles were up 8-0 in the first quarter when a touchdown by Warrior junior Mason Loan, followed by a two-point conversion, evened the score 8-8.

Central took a 14-8 lead in the second quarter following a 41-yard touchdown run courtesy of junior quarterback Griffen Hammersland.

Springville responded later in the quarter, however, knotting the teams 14-14 at halftime.

The Orioles broke the tie in the third frame, earning a touchdown and two-point conversion to go up 22-14. Although the Warriors added a score of their own, a failed two-point attempt left them down 22-20. Springville increased its lead to 10 points with a TD and two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Springville made just four passing attempts in the game—four of which were successful for 24 yards—but ate up 238 yards on the ground, including 150 by senior quarterback Kayd Wilson.

The Oriole defense forced two Central turnovers, with a fumble recovery and an interception.

Individual statistics for Central were not posted at press time.

The loss dropped the Warriors to 1-3 in district play and 2-3 overall. The team will host Cedar Ridge Christian, who is also 2-3, in a non-district game at the Dittmer Sports Complex on Friday, Oct. 2. It’s Central’s homecoming game.
