Last week, the Central Warriors split their volleyball matches, picking up a three-set win over Kee High before falling to Turkey Valley in three sets.

Against Kee High, the Warriors got the job done despite struggling a little with serving. The Warriors finished at 79% as a team, missing 15 serves over the three sets, but also had 13 ace serves. Zoe Armstrong led the way with four aces, followed by Carlie Bergan with three. The Warriors took the match 25-14, 25-21 and 25-21.

While serving was a challenge, our serve receive continued to improve, which allowed us to stay in system more often and set up our offense. Brylee Erickson led the offense with seven kills, followed by Ella Frieden with six, Carlie with five, Avery Fette with four and Tenley Bormann with three. Zoe did a great job running the offense with 24 assists. Defensively, Tenley led the team with 15 digs, followed by Brylee with 13. Tenley also had a great night serving, going 15 for 16 with two aces.

Against Turkey Valley, the Warriors showed improvement in their serving, finishing at 90% as a team and missing only five serves in three sets. The Warriors fell 12-25, 15-25 and 19-25, but continued to improve and battle throughout the match.

In the first set, we struggled to find success hitting against Turkey Valley’s tall front row. However, after making some adjustments, we did a better job finding open areas and putting pressure on their defense. Brylee led the offense with five kills, followed by Ella with four. Tenley had another strong serving night, going 11 for 11 with an ace, while Brylee went eight for eight with an ace.

On defense, Tenley again led the way with 14 digs, followed by Brylee with 12. We struggled with serve receive against a strong Turkey Valley serving team, but I was proud of the way our girls continued to battle. They hustled after balls, supported one another and continued to work hard as a team.

There were definitely things we can continue to work on, but there were also many positives to take away from the week. We are continuing to see improvement in our serve receive, serving, offense and overall team play. This young group continues to learn, adjust and battle, and that growth is exciting to see.
