Warrior girls third in triangular and fifth at 18-hole invite

The Central girls golf team competed twice last week, hosting an Upper Iowa Conference triangular on April 20, before heading to the Clayton Ridge Girls’ 18-Hole Invite on April 23.

With a score of 214, the Warriors were third at the triangular, held at the Elkader Golf and Country Club. Turkey Valley and South Winneshiek both shot a 206, but the Trojans edged South Winn for the victory.

Turkey Valley’s Miyah Byrne and Karstyn Lukes were the top two individuals, posting respective scores of 48 and 49. A 51 from Ella Frieden was the top round for Central, followed by Brylee Erickson with a 52. Avery Fette shot a 55, Katie Royer a 56 and Rayanne Dunlap a 72.

The Warriors placed fifth of seven teams at the 18-hole invite at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club. They posted a 477, trailing the 392 from winner East Buchanan and 405 by runner-up MFL MarMac. North Fayette Valley was third at 409 and Clayton Ridge fourth at 449.

MFL MarMac’s Devon Meyer led the pack with a 90, two shots better than Piper Reck from East Buchanan. Frieden put up a solid 101 to lead the Warriors in eighth place. Erickson was 12th with a 108, Fette 29th with a 130 and Dunlap 34th after shooting a 138.

Central had three meets scheduled for this week, starting with triangular at Charles City and Postville on April 27 and 28. On April 29, they’ll head to Union Community’s Knight Event, which was rescheduled from April 15.
