If you weren't aware: our country is celebrating a big milestone next month. As the United States turns 250, Guttenberg is poised to bring the house down with a day jam-packed with activities.
This year, the theme is an old-fashioned picnic, and there are games and events that will appeal young and old.
July 4 kicks off with the Guttenberg Police Department Bike Rodeo at 1 p.m., and the Fire Department picks up the frivolity with "Water Fun."
From 3-7 p.m., a DJ will bring the noise before the parade starts. The Clayton Ridge Drill Team will perform at the Veterans Monument after the parade is finished.
There will also be games and activities, including musical chairs (3:30 p.m.), a watermelon-eating contest (4 p.m.), gunny sack/three-legged race (4:30 p.m.), tug of war (5 p.m.) and Bingo (3-6 p.m.).
Kids and families have plenty to look forward to as well: an old-time photo booth, bounce houses (3-7 p.m.), balloon animals (3-6 p.m.) and face painting (3-6 p.m.) are just some of the attractions available.
With all the fun on offer, empty bellies might be a problem. That's why there are a plethora of food options that will be available throughout the day. Visitors can get their fill of kettle corn, cotton candy, brats, BBQ, ice cream, and so much more while they're watching the parade or one of the other contests.
The night will, of course, conclude with a fireworks display near the football field at dusk.
