The Central girls track and field team took advantage of beautiful weather at the April 16 Decorah Girls Relays to put up multiple season and personal records across the varsity and junior varsity events.

“Beautiful weather brings a lot of positives to a track and field meet. And this time it sure did,” said coach Martha Bauder. “The warm temps and calm winds helped us achieve 12 PRs, 10 season best marks and eight events which were better than last season.”

The field events were particularly strong, including a season and personal best distance of 15 feet, 4 inches for Carlie Bergan in the long jump. She placed fifth.

Layla Embretson finished a respective sixth and ninth in the discus and shot put. Her final discus throw reached 97 feet, 7 inches, while her shot put mark was 31 feet, 9 inches—a personal and season record.

More strong finishes came in the relays, led by a fourth place result in the shuttle hurdle relay. In that race, Payton Stannard, Brylee Erickson, Ella Frieden and Alivia Wiley combined for a season best time of 1:21.71.

The 4x200 of Tenley Bormann, Mya Gregerson, Katalina Dunlap and Maci Keppler crossed the finish line sixth with a time of 2:04.20. The 4x100 thrower’s relay also earned sixth behind a time of 1:12.05 for Mikayla Evans, Tenley Meyer, Embretson and Hannah Friedlein. That was a season best.

In the 800 sprint medley, Bormann, Keppler, Kaylie Wilson and Gregerson earned eighth in 2:12.49.

Central saw its best individual running results in the 400 meter dash, where Blair Scherf and Bergan were a respective third and fifth. Their times of 1:06.40 and 1:07.15 were personal bests for both, as well as a season best for Scherf.

Scherf didn’t stop there, placing 10th in the 800 meter run and ninth in the 1500. She completed the 800 in 2:47.01, then the 1500 in a season best 5:50.82.

In the varsity 100 meter dash, Bormann led the Warriors in 10th place with a PR time of 14.16 seconds. Keppler followed closely in 11th, turning in a PR of 14.66 seconds.

Bormann secured another 10th place result in the varsity 200 meter dash, thanks to a time of 30.12 seconds. Bergan posted a time of 30.38 seconds for 11th place.

Friedlein represented Central in the 3000 meter run, placing seventh in 15:59.63.

The Warriors’ next action was April 20 at New Hampton. They will head to West Delaware on April 23.
