The MFL MarMac boys golf team had one of its most successful stretches of the season last week, winning three of four meets.
The Bulldogs kicked it off with a 20-shot victory over Clayton Ridge in an Upper Iowa Conference triangular at Tri City Golf Course on April 20. They finished with a 165 and the Eagles a 185, while Postville came in third at 192.
MFL MarMac claimed the top three individual scores, led by a 39 from medalist Jarett Hanson. Wesley Corlett was the runner-up with a 41, followed by Jaxon Lamborn with a 43. Maddox Hanson and Will Miller both shot 43s, then Aidan Meyer posted a 44. Dayne Anderson and Wille Howes each finished the meet with 46s and Mason Hollar a 49.
The only meet the Bulldogs didn’t win last week came in an April 21 triangular at Sumner-Fredericksburg. Just 10 strokes separated the three schools there, with Union Community winning with a 154, then Sumner-Fred edging MFL MarMac 163 versus 164 for second place.
MFL MarMac quickly rebounded, however, winning a triangular against Edgewood-Colesburg and Springville at Woods Edge Golf Course on April 23. They shot a combined 166, well ahead of Ed-Co’s 193 and Springville’s 238.
The Bulldogs did it with the top five individual scores, led by 41s from Maddox Hanson and Miller. Anderson, Corlett and Lamborn each carded 42s, while Jarett Hanson shot a 49.
On April 24, MFL MarMac turned in a score of 163 to best Wapsie Valley (172) and Sumner-Fred (176) in a triangular at Maple Hills Country Club near Tripoli.
Dawson Fenton from Wapsie Valley claimed medalist honors, beating out MFL MarMac’s Miller, who matched his 39. Jarett Hanson placed third and Anderson fifth—each shooting 41s. A 42 slotted Corlett into sixth place. Lamborn and Maddox Hanson were a respective ninth and 11 after shooting 44s.
Weather permitting, the Bulldogs were going to host South Winneshiek, New Hampton and Crestwood at Tri City Golf Course on April 27. They will close out the week in a triangular at Maquoketa Valley on May 1.
